Fiddler's Green owner Clay Levit grew up in Houston and went to UT in Austin.  In Austin, he met his soon-to-be-wife and soon after getting married moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to be near the in-laws.  Clay opened Fiddler's Green Music Shop in Memphis in 2005.  The shop did well in Memphis but Clay and his family soon decided it was time to move back to Austin.  Fiddler's Green opened in Austin on April 1st, 2008 and has become a focal point in the local traditional and acoustic music scene.

     Ben Hodges was a mandolin student at Fiddler's Green when the shop was in Memphis.  When the shop moved he came along too and became the indespensible shop manager in Austin, as well as a great mandolin player!

     Michelle Hedden became a great friend of the shop in Austin, and when the time came to hire another person she was the perfect choice.  She also has become indespensible in the shop and has developed into an amazing violin luthier, as well as a great bodhran player!

     Clay always wanted the shop to be strictly acoustic mainly because he didn't want to listen to endless renditions of "Stairway To Heaven" played on electric guitars at volume 11.  As it turns out, it was a good thing, because Austin didn't really seem to have a shop that caters to the traditional, folk, bluegrass, old time, Irish, classical, and acoustic crowd.  So now, instead of "Stairway to Heaven" we hear "Whiskey Before Breakfast" all day long! 

     Fiddler's Green has developed a real niche in the local Austin music scene.  With our concerts, workshops, music sessions, boot camps, private lessons from our amazing instructors, and repairs done by our talented luthiers, we have earned a great spot in the heart of Austin's music community.
 
     And we intend to stay there!
